LightScribe 3D, unveiled yesterday at Siggraph 2000, is a new 3D scanning technology that allows designers to create photo-realistic 3D images that can be viewed at any angle on the Web. Jointly developed by Immersion – a leader in digital touch technology – and 3D capture specialists Geometrix, LightScribe 3D lets designers turn physical objects into 3D geometric models by using a handheld laser pointer to scan and capture 3D data. In addition, Immersion’s TouchSense technology can make LightScribe 3D objects not only viewable, but touchable as well. LightScribe 3D is expected to be available in October priced at approximately $7,995.
