Microtek has announced the ScanMaker 8700, a 1,200dpi optical resolution scanner that includes both USB and IEEE 1394 (FireWire) ports. The combination of both types of port is designed to allow the scanner access to the wide range of computers with USB ports while delivering fast scans to IEEE 1394-capable machines.
The scanner combines a true 42-bit colour depth with the 1,200 dpi for near-perfect colour and clarity. The scanner also includes Microtek’s EDIT (Emulsion Direct Imaging Technology), which allows glass free scanning of transparencies to avoid Newton rings and other blemishes.
The 8700 ships with ScanWizard 5 .0 scanning software, Photoshop Adobe 5.0, Abby FineReader OCR tool, Ulead PhotoExplorer. Optionally the scanner also ships with LaserSoft’s SilverFast higher-end scanning software.
The ScanMaker 8700 costs £799.99 (plus VAT).
