Criterion has announced RenderVision, a realtime previewing plug-in for 3D Studio MAX. Although no release date has been announced the product will be shown off at Discreet’s European Developer Roadshow in Manchester on June 6 and London on the June 8.
RenderVision allows MAX scenes to be previewed as if on an end platform in a similar way to the XSI viewer for Softimage’s application. Currently only PlayStation 2 and PC are supported – but other formats will be added with time.
The tool exports any MAX geometry that can be converted into triangles: including NURBS, patches, lighting, textures, bitmaps and Character Studio files. It also has a metrics mode for triangle and texture throughput on the PlayStation 2.
