RealViz will release its first motion capture application at the Siggraph show in Boston next week. Movimento is based on the same SMART technology as the company's popular MatchMover Pro motion tracking software.

Movimento is designed not to intrude if used on-set or on-location, and can be used for facial, hand, arm and full-body motion capture. It requires a minimum of two cameras, which can be fixed or moving. RealViz says the system can capture in natural or ambient lighting, and doesn't require any specific hardware in the scene.

Mocap data can be exported to Autodesk MotionBuilder, 3ds Max, Maya, and Softimage|XSI for further manipulation. Custom computations and/or exports can be realized through scripting (Python, Perl, TCL/TK).
Movimento costs €16,000 (around £11,000) for the software alone, or €37,000 (around £25,000) with four cameras. The first release will be for Windows only, with Linux and Mac OS X software due in late 2006.
