Concrete and Baraka are set to join forces, creating a single new post production company in Soho, London. Both companies specialized in short-form media -- including music videos, titles and commercials -- but the expanded company is looking to push into wider broadcast and feature film markets..

Baraka’s existing joint MD’s David Cox and Chris Gilbert will run the enlarged Concrete, which will boast a broad array of technology. The new facility will offer six high-end HD and SD compositing suites based around two Smokes, two Quantel EQs and two Mistikas. Concrete Design, the in-house graphics and design team will also double in size and will benefit from Baraka’s long experience using 3D animation for visual effects. Baraka’s creative editing company Chop is also moving to the new premises, providing editing services based around four Avid Adrenalines and shared storage. The video services are complemented by a new 5.1 surround-sound Protools audio mixing suite and voice-over booth.

Baraka, formed just over 11 years ago by compositors David and Chris from the Mill and MPC, has built a reputation for visual effects and high end finishing. It has netted a number of awards along the way including British Television Advertising Awards.

Concrete was created a year ago by the Television Set group, specifically to target the short-form market. Recent work at Concrete includes Jamelia promo No More, the best-selling Travelling Wilburys DVD (Harrisongs) and title sequences for Rough Diamond (BBC1), Bible Revolution (Ch4) and Into Alaska (HD for Discovery). Recent Baraka credits include commercials and corporates for The Sunday Times, Vodafone and Nokia as well as on-air promotions for National Geographic.

Joint MD David Cox states, "The combination of Concrete and Baraka creates a fantastic new short-from post production service in Soho. Our experience in visual effects and HD post combined with Concrete’s strong graphic design and short form background makes the perfect match, whilst still being able to provide the highly personal service we are both known for. We will be able to offer our clients focused talent bases for editing, graphic design, finishing, visual effects, digital colour grading and audio in undoubtedly one of the best locations in Soho."
