LaCie has released a faster version of its palm-sized, double-port PocketDrive CD-RW. The drive includes both USB and IEEE 1394 (FireWire) interfaces – and can be powered directly through the FireWire port.
The new drive writes CDs at 8x speed, re-writes at 4x speed and reads at 24x, though this is only possible using a FireWire connection. The maximum speeds over USB are 4x, 4x and 6x. It offers faster CD writing than the previous version, which offered a maximum speed of 4x.
The drive measures only 158-x-152mm and is encased in a shock absorber with a groove that acts as a cable tidy. The drive ships with cables, a universal power adapter, one recordable and one re-writable disc, Easy CD Creator for Windows and Toast for the Mac.
The PocketDrive 8x4x24x costs £339 plus VAT.
