Production company Passion Pictures has opened a New York office to partner with its London and Paris hubs. Director Pete Candeland and producer Belinda Blacklock are first on the ground.

Passion Pictures CEO and executive producer Andrew Ruhemann says, “It makes a lot of sense for Passion Pictures to have a presence in New York, which is one of the great capitals of art and creativity. It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a while. By happy coincidence Pete expressed a wish to move to the city earlier this year, so the idea has finally become a reality.

Ruhemann continues: "Pete’s star has risen so high recently that it makes perfect sense for him to now immerse himself in the fantastic creative energy that flows in NYC. We’re really excited by all the opportunities this new venture will bring."

Pete Candeland's work includes overseeing a huge team of Passion Pictures animators and designers to create the two-minute cinematic intro to The Beatles: Rock Band. He has also recently helmed another outing of the Coca-Cola Happy Kingdom concept -- this time for Coke Zero in the Brazil and Argentina markets.

Other key projects include co-directing Grammy-nominated music videos for Gorillaz with Jamie Hewlett, channel branding for the BBC, and further cinematics for the Rock Band and Guitar Band series.

Candeland joined Passion Pictures in 2000 and is well known throughout the commercials and music video industries for his distinctive animation style. He has directed a broad range of work at Passion including Grammy nominated music videos for Gorillaz (co-directed by band co-founder Jamie Hewlett), cinematics for both the Rock Band and Guitar Hero game brands, plus many TV commercials and channel branding for BBC Television.

Pete Candeland says, “NY has always been at the forefront of cutting edge culture and design, so now to be able to experience that first hand is an amazing opportunity. On top of that, doing it with Passion Pictures, a company who I have worked with for many years and enjoy working with is just fantastic.”
