Cambridge Animation has announced that it is developing a version of its Animo 2D cel animation software for OS X. This is the first Mac release for the product, which previously was only available for Windows and IRIX. The OS X version of Animo will offer the same functionality as the other versions. According to Cambridge Animation, users will be able to seamlessly exchange files between all three types of Animo system – as they can currently between the Windows and IRIX versions. The company has also hinted that its other products – including the Inkworks cartoon shader for 3D suites and Swiffworks Flash renderer – will be ported to OS X. “Bringing Animo to Mac OS X represents a major opportunity to extend our user base,” said Phil Barrett, CTO of Cambridge Animation. “Our product strategy for the future now includes a commitment to releasing new products for the Mac.”
