Apple's high-end digital compositing software Shake will receive a major upgrade in the next few weeks. Shake 4.1 will ship in May and feature support for Apple's Intel Macs, Apple executives confirmed on Monday at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kirk Paulsen, Apple's senior director - pro applications marketing, demonstrated Shake for Digit running on an Intel Duo Core iMac - though very few users would want to run Shake on a such a system. Typically, users of the Mac version Shake would have a dual processor Power Mac G5. Paulsen said the processors are no longer the bottleneck when running high-end applications like Shake, now it's the speed of the hard drive.
