Four directors, including Leaving Las Vegas helmer Mike Figgis, have created short films for Future Shorts' Please Say Something short film festival. Figgis, Rankin & Chris, Phil & Olly of Diamond Dogs, and James Lees were commissioned by the project, which is sponsored by Samsung Mobile to promote the i8910 HD mobile phone.
Each director was given the brief to ‘Spontaneously Capture Life in HD’, and their interpretations can be seen on www.futureshorts.com/samsunghd where fans can vote for their favourite HD film.
Please Say Something begins tomorrow at The Ritzy in Brixton. The festival will also feature an interactive website where film lovers can see behind the scenes, swap clips, chat, twitter, join in on Facebook, view the films or register to see the films at a local cinema. The winning film will go on to be viewed in 108 cinema screens nationwide.
In addition to the four directors’ films, four hand-picked apprentice filmmakers have shot exclusive behind the scenes content on the making of each of the Directors films, which can be viewed on the Future Shorts YouTube Channel.
"More people have become familiar with the idea of short films being part of the culture now, as part of film making, so many short film competitions, and lots of people with mobile phones want to gradually ease their way into the movie market," says Mike Figgis.
