The ScanMaker 5700 is the latest scanner to be announced by Microtek. Top new features include a 4-x-5 inch lightlid, dual outputs and a series of one-touch buttons.
The FilmView lightlid includes a transparent media adapter but can also be used as a lightbox. This allows users to check their slides or transparencies before scanning.
The 5700 includes both IEEE 1394 (FireWire) and USB interfaces. This allows the scanner to give the best performance to newer, high-spec machines using the IEEE 1394 port – while being compatible with the many machines that have USB slots.
The one-touch buttons allow users to complete common tasks with a single action. Tasks available in this manner include OCR, scan-to-Web, scan, copy and email.
Other features in the scanner include a 1,200dpi optical resolution, 42-bit input and output and hardware JPEG compression to keep files sizes down. It ships with Microtek’s ScanWizard 5 scanning software, Photoshop LE, ABBY FireReader OCR software, Ulead PhotoExplorer and, optionally, LaserSoft’s SilverFast.
The ScanMaker 5700 costs £399.99 including VAT.
