Corel has made its first steps onto Apple’s new Mac OS X with the launch of betas of Bryce 4.1 and KnockOut 1.5.1. Both the 3D landscape generator and masking tool, respectively, have no new functionality, but have been ‘Carbonized’ to work natively under OS X.
Corel has also launched the finished 6.1 update for Painter. The update adds one new type of effect, enhances five more and provides a large number of bug fixes. The new Woodcut effect converts photos into what appears to be a hand-rendered woodblock print. It does this by reducing the number of colours in the image and adding a graphical black edge. Enhanced effects include soften, sharpen, highpass and blur. The patch is available for both Windows and Mac versions of the product.
