LaCie has announced six new products it plans to debut at Macworld Expo in San Francisco next week. The new product line consists of five new external hard disk drive systems and one new external DVD +/-RW drive. All are Mac and PC compatible.
LaCie's new Little Big Disk is available in capacities ranging from 160GB to 320GB. The drives feature USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 interfaces -- LaCie's 'Triple Interface'. Prices range from $399 to $799 depending on capacity.
LaCie's Rugged Hard Drive has been designed for portability -- it's encased in an aluminum shell with rubber bumper. Like the Little Big Disk, it features the Triple Interface. It's also available in single interface USB 2.0 versions. Capacities range from from 80GB to 120GB, with prices ranging from $199 to $359. Single interface versions run from $169 to $329.
The Skwarim is a handheld hard drive that measures 3.3 inches square and has a unique textured feel. It's available in a 30GB pink version for $149, and a 60GB blue version for $199. It uses USB 2.0 and works without an AC adapter.
LaCie's Two Big is a SATA II RAID chassis with two hot-swappable drive bays, available in a $469 500GB or $949 1 terabyte (TB) configuration. It's bundled with LaCie's SATA II 3Gb/s PCI-X Card 4E -- a four-port SATA expansion card that works with PCs and Macs (but not newer Power Mac G5s, which use PCI Express).
The Mini Hard Drive & Hub is an all-in-one solution for the Mac mini. It features storage space from 250GB to 500GB, and touts two FireWire 400 and four USB 2.0 ports to connect other peripherals. It features brushed aluminum casing and a form factor to match the Mac mini.
The Slim DVD+/-RW Design by FA Porsche is a new external writeable DVD drive that uses FireWire. Bundled with Roxio's Toast 7 Titanium CD and DVD burning software, the drive can also etch labels onto special discs using LightScribe technology. It costs $219.
All the hard drives will ship with LaCie Backup Software for Mac and Windows and cables.
