Luxology has released the first info on the next version of its 3D modelling and rendering software, Modo, which can be used to create 3D models for use in animation software or renders for use in artwork in tools such as Photoshop.

Modo 401 adds fur creation tools, which can also be used to create hair using longer strands. Texture maps can be used to control direction.

Volumetric lighting support mimics the effect of light hitting small particles in the air, creating light rays. Replicators allow procedural modelling, for example automatically adding leaves to a tree every time a new branch is added.

No pricing or availability has been announced. Luxology says that it will give more details on February 12.
