NewTek has announced that a beta version of a Shockwave3D exporter for its LightWave 3D package is available for download from the company’s Web site. The plug-in is available for Windows and Mac OS 9.x versions of the software, but not the OS X version as yet. The plug-in exports LightWave files as W3D files, the native format for 3D files within Director. It can work with all of the central elements of LightWave as possible – including cameras, lights, animations and textures. NewTek claims that the exporter settings to Shockwave3D are as near to LightWave features as possible. Also, all of the different palettes for ShockWave3D remain separately available when exporting. No release date for the exporter has been announced, although NewTek expect it to be “soon”.
