iView Multimedia will release an upgraded version of its iView Media Pro personal asset management application in November. Version 3.0 focusses on workflow tools to speed up the processing of images, and adds more tools for professional photographers.
The Pro Lightbox uses a full screen mode to enable viewing of up to four images side-by-side. Users can automatically zoom and scroll to the same point on multiple images, mark favourite selections and display histograms for all images.
Annotation workflow has been streamlined to improve consistancy by utilizing user-defined controlled vocabulary such as keywords, plus support for standards such as IPTC/XMP Core and Unicode so that the information is available within other applications such as Photoshop. The application's interface can be customized to display only the metadata fields you need.
Dynamic file import control allows batch renaming, application of multiple annotations and automatic copying of files. Batch import via the Web is also possible using cURL technology. The upgrade also adds support for new formats including WMV, WMA, Word, RTF and archived Web pages.
iView Media Pro 3.0 can import and export catalogs using XML. This allows information to be taken from other applications, and exported into other databases and to HTML documents.
Other new features include expanded Web gallery options, the ability to email files directly from within the catalog, improved image conversion and more options for contact sheets.
iView Media Pro 3.0 runs on Mac OS X 10.2 or later, or Windows 2000/XP. It costs $199 (around £112). Upgrade pricing has yet to be announced.
