X-Factor, the After Effects 6.5 plug-in that uses networked computers to speed previews of scenes, has been updated to version 1.5 by developer GridIron Software. The new version adds support for network rendering, and support for network drives and Windows XP Service Pack 2.

The plug-in uses Macs and Windows PCs on a network to speed up the previewing of heavy-duty AE scenes. These computers need to have the AE and GridIron rendering nodes installed. The new version also allows users to render scenes using the plug-in, rather than the Professional version of After Effect's own network rendering system.

GridIron has also confirmed that it's developing the system for use within other 'video packages', though the company would not be more specific than that.
