Hewlett-Packard has announced the release of its HP Photosmart 812 digital camera – a four-megapixel camera that features a USB connection and storage through Secure Digital flash media cards. Featuring a Pentax-manufactured 3x optical zoom lens, the camera offers 7x optical zoom for a total zoom range of up to 21x. The camera can also capture up to a minute of video or audio. The Photosmart 812 includes support for HP's Instant Share technology, which makes it possible to share digital photos online with friends and family by sending low-res thumbnails to recipients via email. Recipients who want higher-resolution files can connect to HP-hosted servers. Each user is allocated 200MB of storage capacity for up to 60 days in order to share files. The Photosmart 812 is compatible with Mac and Windows. The Photosmart 812 carries a suggested retail price of $499.99 (around £350). The package includes the camera, a 16MB Secure Digital card, two AA photo lithium batteries, wrist strap, documentation, USB cable, and software for Windows and Mac OS. UK availability isn’t yet known. NiMH rechargable batteries and the HP Photosmart 8881 digital camera dock are also available as options.
