Hewlett-Packard has unveiled new scanning technology in three new professional scanner models – the Scanjet 7400c/7450c/7490c. The three new scanners included HP’s new dual-sensor CCD technology. This combines a 2,400dpi sensor for fine detail along with a 600dpi sensor for everyday fast scanning. The A4-size, 48-bit colour scanners offer a four-second preview scan and 15 pages per minute scans through the automatic document feeder. Equipped with easy one-touch commands for various functions including scanning, copying, email and fax, the new series also has HP’s Share-to-Web feature – a simple three-step way for users to upload pictures to photosharing Web sites direct from the scanner. The Scanjets 7400c, 7450c and 7490c have optical-character recognition facilities, and are equipped to recognize multiple language fonts, including French, German and Spanish. The 7490c also includes stitching software that scans larger than A4 originals, and ships with CorelDraw 9.0. The three models all come with SCSI and USB connections, and a SCSI interface kit including card, cable and drivers is included with the Scanjet 7490c. Available from April 1, the scanners are priced as follows: Scanjet 7400c £369; Scanjet 7450c £469; Scanjet 7490c £649. All prices include VAT.
