HP is to release configurations of its xw6400 and xw8400 workstations with two Intel Xeon 5300-series quad-core processors, the company has announced. It has also formally released details of its new xw4400 line, which includes a single Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 quad-core processor.
These chips have twice the number of cores of Intel's Xeon 5100 and Core 2 Duo series processors, boosting the performance of multi-threaded applications - which include most of the major creative applications such as those from the likes of Adobe, Apple and Autodesk.
HP workstations with Xeon 5300 chips are expected later this month with a starting price of £1,125 plus VAT.
