Gyration, billed as pioneer in motion sensing computer peripherals has announced its award winning Gyration Air Mouse Elite is now available for use with Macs, running the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard, as well as for Windows-based computers.
The Elite is a 3-in-1, motion control device that promises to work as a desktop or in-air computer mouse, a remote control, and a presentation remote.
It's available alone or bundled with a matching, low profile wireless keyboard. Both mouse and keyboard use the same, highly sensitive RF technology with a 30m (100ft) range.
Gyration notes the Air Mouse Elite can be either used as a normal desk mouse or, or as an in-air mouse, with the built-in gyroscopic sensor detecting hand movements. The Elite then uses your hand movements to control the position of the pointer on the screen.
The company claims the Elite replaces old style, remotes with button navigation and gives the freedom and precision of desktop mice, but without the need of a flat surface to operate.
The Air Mouse Elite is supplied with Movea's MotionTools software - a suite of effects and tools that allow users to customise, activate and control desktop applications with the flick of their wrist.
MotionTools library of gestures can be used by a presenter to zoom in on the screen, or to turn the mouse cursor into a highlighter, a laser pointer or pen.
Additionally for Mac users, MotionTools automatically recognizes the application programme being used, such as Keynote, PowerPoint, Safari, Internet Explorer, iTunes, or Windows Media Player. Gesture controls can then be programmed for your favourite applications. Standard features include: volume control, cut, paste, play/pause video, change tracks or radio stations and more.
Weighing in at 100g (3.3 ounces) Gyration claims the ergonomic design works comfortably for left- or right-handed users and has three assignable buttons for favourite tasks. It also includes a laser sensor for traditional desktop performance. The device comes with a USB-powered recharging cradle and its batteries typically last three weeks of normal use before needing to be recharged.
The Air Mouse Elite has a suggested retail price of €99.99 (£89.99) or €149.99 (£129.99) when bundled with the low profile keyboard.
Owners of the previous generation Elite model can download the Mac version of the software from the www.gyration.com website, while the company offers a free dongle swap service to provide Mac compatibility.
Gyration claims the company has sold more three million air mice around the world.
