Medéa has shown what it claims is the first external multi-stream storage device to use FireWire. The G-RAID is a two-drive desktop storage device in a case that smacks of Apple’s G5 – though it also works with Windows systems.

It has FireWire and FireWire 800 ports, through which it’s capable of up to seven DV streams, four HDV streams or two streams of 8-bit uncompressed SD. Prices begin at $299 (around £165).
