FAST has released a version of its Purple DV editing solution for field editing. Purple.Field is a native DV, DVCAM and DVCPRO editing system that is based around a standard IEEE 1394 (FireWire) board on a laptop.
Purple.Field uses the same Fast-Studio XL as the standard workstation version of Purple, which is also the same as used by the higher-end MPEG-2 based Silver and the still forthcoming Blue. The feature set includes background rendering, instant save technology and an object-orientated undo function. It also supports voiceover on the time, external audio fader controls via MIDI and a container facility.
The system runs under Windows 2000 and is certified for two laptops: HP’s Omnibook 6000 and Sony’s Vaio PCG F 809 K. Support for Gateway’s Solo should be announced soon. Purple.Field costs around £5,000 – including the laptop.
