Extensis has offered some details about its forthcoming release of Portfolio 7 Server, a new version of its Digital Asset Management (DAM) solution for workgroups. Porfolio 7 Server was first announced at PMA this past February alongside the new Portfolio 7 client software, but this announcement today fleshed out some further details.

New features in Portfolio 7 Server include an "AutoSync" capability that lets users assign tasks to Portfolio Server to enable automatic synchronization, offloading file management and more. The "NetPublish" module is a new template-based tool that lets users publish Portfolio-managed content to the Web using server-side JavaScript-based scripting that can be customized and edited by administrators or advanced users.

Portfolio Server will debut with connection modules for Microsoft SQL Server when it ships for the Mac in May, following the PC product's April release -- the same schedule Extensis cited for the Portfolio 7 client product at last month's NAB event. In July, Extensis plans to release engines for Oracle and MySQL databases.

Portfolio 7 Server will be available for about $3,500 (around £1,925). Portfolio 7 Client will support Windows 2000 and XP, Mac OS X, version 10.2 and higher and QuickTime 6.4 or higher. Portfolio 7 Server will support Windows 2000, 2003 Server, and Mac OS X, version 10.2 and higher. Portfolio NetPublish requires Microsoft IIS Versions 5.1 or 6.0 and Apache 1.3 running on Mac OS X, version 10.2 and higher.
