Pictoplasma, the character art and design exhibition and conference, makes its way from Berlin to Manhattan for the first time. From September 5-6, 2008, Pictoplasma NYC will gather international artists for two-day event of lectures, screenings, exhibitions and parties at the The Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.

Now in its ninth year, Pictoplasma champions the art of vibrant characters creation from today’s artists across the fields of animation, illustration, graphic art and toys manufacture.



The NYC event will be packed with a selection of screenings and talks given by some of the industry’s most innovative, leading talent. The conference will wrap on Saturday evening with a party, VJ presentation by Motomichi Nakamura and musical performance by the pioneering artistic duo Gangpol & Mit.

A diverse lineup of speakers from around the globe will cover a wide range of media, artistic ideas and inspirational sources. Speakers include Miami-based artist duo Friends With You; Motomichi Nakamura, famed for his primitive monster art which has appeared at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Basel Miami Beach and the Sundance Film Festival and Japanese artist Akinori Oishi and Tim Biskup.

Also in atttendance will be filmmaker David O'Reilly, who was featured in the New Directors Showcase at Cannes; Fons Schiedon from The Netherlands, who has created campaigns for Nickelodeon and MTV; French duo Gangpol & Mit and Aaron Stewart, a director at Hornet where he successfully applies his trademark minimalist style to a variety of spots for high-profile clients.
