Epson has introduced the Stylus Photo RX700 multi-function printer/scanner. Billed as "the ultimate home photo centre", the device can print on inkjet-printable CDs and DVDs and can also work with a digital camera directly, without needing a Mac.
The Stylus Photo RX700 features six-colour dye-based photo inks that load in individual tanks, and supports up to 5,760-x-1,440dpi resolution. It can print borderless 4-x-6-inch, 5-x-7-inch and 8-x-10-inch prints. An 8-x-10 photo takes 78 seconds to output; a black text document takes about 20 seconds.
Other features include dual paper trays, PictBridge support for PictBridge-compatible cameras, and built-in flash memory card slots. It can also direct print from CD-R, Zip or flash memory drives and from Bluetooth devices using an optional adapter. Users can output a "Photo Proof Sheet" that displays thumbnail images of photos that can be marked; the sheet is then scanned, and the printer outputs the marked photos.
The Stylus Photo RX700 can make reprints and enlargements from slides, negatives and photos through its built-in 48-bit 3,200-x-6,400 DPI scanner. It has a 2.5-inch LCD photo viewer. It connects to a Mac or PC using USB 2.0.
