Olympus have announced a firmware update service for owners of their E-1 digital SLR, available from January 28. The company claims that the service will provide a simple method for users to keep their firmware up-to-date.
To take advantage of the service users must have the latest version of the Olympus Viewer or Olympus Studio software (version 1.1). Owners of previous versions can update through the 'software update menu' of their current version.
With the latest software version and an internet connection, and their camera and accessories connected, the software can check the firmware versions of the body, lenses and/or flash. If necessary, the software will prompt users to update to the latest version.
A manual update option is still available for users without an internet connection.
