Jumping several version numbers, Macromedia Dreamweaver UltraDev 4 is to ship in December. Skipping two versions to sync with Dreamweaver 4 and Fireworks 4, UltraDev 4 is an update to the tool for creating database-driven Web sites. New features include a split view for viewing code and design views at the same time, and an integrated text editor that includes ASP, JSP and CFML keyword colour-coding, auto-indenting and line numbers. Also featured is remote database connectivity tools, letting developers sidestep the need for ODBC or JDBC drivers on the development machine. UltraDev 4 continues Macromedia's integration trends - it connects seamlessly with Dreamweaver and Fireworks through Roundtrip graphics editing - Macromedia's name for the ability to launch-&-edit files with Fireworks from within UltraDev. A new Asset panel debuts, as well as the ability to create Flash elements within the layout view. Other features include the ability to integrate JavaBeans into UltraDev through a Data Bindings inspector, and utilize Server Behaviours and Live Objects.
