Daz Productions has released version 5 of its Bryce landscape modelling software as a free download. Both the Mac and Windows versions of the software are available, though Daz notes that the software isn't compatible with the latest version of Mac OS X (10.4).

Interested users will have to be quick though, as Daz says that the offer will "absolutely end on September 6, 2006".

Bryce 5 is a full suite for modelling and rendering 3D landscapes. It includes lighting and foilage tools, plus metaball modelling and networking rendering support.

Since Daz acquired Bryce 5 from Corel in June last year, the company has released version 5.5. This adds faster rendering, improved network rendering, enhanced real-time display of scenes, a plug that allows Daz|Studio characters to be imported, support for Mac OS X 10.4 and more.

Daz has also released the Bryce 5 Content Pack for $9.95 (around £5.25), which includes over 250 MB of sky presets, material presets, terrains, 3D objects, sample scenes and more..
