Corel has released KnockOut 1.1, the first version of the masking software to become commercially available since the company licensed the product from Ultimatte last month. The package is available for both Windows and Mac platforms and costs $99 when downloaded from Corel’s Web site. A free upgrade to version 1.5, available in April, is also included. KnockOut is designed to make masking a more efficient process, especially for irregular objects. Its main selling point is that it works with transitions rather than edges, which allows it to preserve fine detail like hair, smoke and shadows – as well as the effects of filters like motion blur.
