Canon has announced the MVX300 series of DV camcorders, which are based around a 1.33-megapixel, 1/4.5-inch CCD. The base MVX300 model features an 18x optical zoom lens, Canon’s Electronic Image Stabilisation anti-camera shake technology and a 2.5-inch, 123,000-pixel LCD screen.

The 1.33-megapixel CCD has an effective resolution of 860,000 pixels when recording to miniDV tape, using the expanded size of the CCD to record in ‘true’ widescreen, and of 1.23 megapixels when recording stills to SD Card. The camcorder includes a double neutral density (ND) filter to prevent overexposure and spectra coatings on the lens elements to prevent ghosting and flare.
