Canon has announced a new addition to its range of PowerShot digital compact cameras, the 5Mp S60, sporting a 28-100mm lens. Compared to the S50, Canon claims the S60 has an improved user interface, a smaller size and faster start-up time.

The camera has 13 different shooting modes, and a shutter speed range of 15-1/2000 seconds. The 28-100mm (35mm equivalent) focal length lens has a 4cm focus distance macro mode and there’s an optional 2x tele-converter to bring the focal length up to 200mm.

Other advances over the S50 include the ability to output RAW files, and the inclusion of Canon’s DIGIC processor which permits 2fps continuous shooting, and supports a 9-point auto-focus system.

The camera is PictBridge compatible for PC-less printing. A Print/Share button will also automatically transfer files to a printer or PC via USB. The PowerShot S60 will be available from June for around £383 plus VAT.
