Canon has announced two new digital camcorders, the MVX30i and MVX35i. Both camcorders feature a single 2.2Mp CCD, a 10x optical zoom and dedicated digital stills functionality. The MVX35i is MPEG-4 compatible.
To be released in August, the vertical format camcorders also feature RGB primary colour filters, built in flash and Canon DIGIC DV processors. The DIGIC DV processor has separate processing paths for video and stills, which Canon claims gives true 256 gradation JPEG stills.
Both camcorders are PictBridge compatible for computerless printing, high-resolution 16:9 mode, FireWire and USB 2.0 connectivity and a 2.5-inch LCD. The 10x optical lens has a maximum aperture of f1.8/2.4. The MVX35i also features Super Night Mode with full colour shooting in zero light conditions, according to Canon.
