Canon has announced the i9950 A3 Bubble Jet. The printer boasts eight colours, raising the bar for Canon inkjets still further following the announcement of the seven colour A4 i990 less than two weeks ago. The 4,800-x-2,400dpi A3 photo printer will be available from May, priced at around £470 plus VAT.
Where the ChromaPLUS technology in the i990 printer added a red ink to Canon's usual six, the i9950 makes the further addition of green. Canon claims that the green ink will expand the colour gamut of the printer in the area of yellow to green, the red ink having increased the colour gamut in the area of yellow to red. Canon claims that this move will bring its colour characteristics and saturation even closer to positive photographic film.
Each ink is stored in an individually replaceable tank. Canon claims that the printer is capable of printing full borderless A3 photo prints in 65 seconds, due to the highest nozzle-density head of any printer, sporting 6,144 nozzles. The printer has a permanent 2pl droplet size, according to the company.
The printer is compatible with Windows and Mac PCs, via a USB 2.0 connection, and supports ICC profiles for colour management. PictBridge and Canon's Bubble Jet Direct technologies allow direct printing from cameras. The Canon Easy-ToolBox software suite is provided for image scaling, image management, photo, and Web printing.
