Boris FX has launched version 5.0 of its Boris Continuum Complete collection of plug-ins for Adobe, Apple, Autodesk and Avid systems.
BCC 5.0 is the first to be offered as a Universal Binary, providing support for software running on Intel-based Macs. The BCC 5.0 release also offers full native support for the Apple FXPlug and Avid AVX 2.0, plus Adobe's Creative Suite 3.
New tools include pan and scan controls, up-res conversions, integrated motion tracking for video editors, and accelerated Open GL effects.
The new BCC Pan and Zoom filter is designed for recreating 'Ken Burns' effects -- panning and zooming large still image or photograph. The filter offers on-screen controls, convenient preview modes, and advanced image filtering algorithms for precise image motion and scaling. Users can also import external files.
BCC UpRez is designed for working with multiple SD and HD formats in the same project, as Boris FX says that it quickly converts SD to HD with optimal image quality.
BCC MatchMove adds Boris RED's motion tracking engine to the plug-in collection. BCC MatchMove locks the movement of one image clip to another, and users can alter the moving image with the Boris DVE.
Other new filters include BCC LED -- which enables artists to make a clip appear as though it was constructed out of an array of blinking or solid LED lights -- BCC Prism -- while simulates the photographic effect of chromatic aberration -- and BCC Scan Lines -- which generates rolling RGB scan lines over the image clip, emulating the effect of a computer monitor that is shot on video tape or film.
BCC DamagedTV emulates the appearance of a CRT style television set that is receiving a bad signal or is in need of repair. BCC Noise Map generates procedural auto-animated image clips that can be used as backdrops or as a mask track input for other image clips.
The new BCC Turbulence generates auto-animated gel-like distortion fields in an image clip utilizing the input from the built-in noise map and turbulence controls. The BCC Color Choker filter allows users to easily posterize and blur the colors in an image clip. Colors can be attenuated or remapped individually or as an RGB group.
Boris Continuum Complete 5.0 is available in four versions. The FXPlug version of Final Cut Pro, AE version for Adobe applications, and AVX for Xpress Pro cost $795 (£404) each. The AVX version for Avid Composer and Symphony cost $1,995 (£1,015). Upgrades to all versions cost $249 (£126).
