Blurb has released BookSmart 2.5, free software for creating books on a Mac and PC to be printed using the company's publishing service. BookSmart 2.5 introduces a range of new features, enhancements, bug fixes and stability improvements.

The update includes improved library management, a contextual resource library to get help from within BookSmart, guidance for trim lines and safe area, snap to grid, new design tools and more.

Blurb also announced flat-rate shipping rates, significantly reducing the shipping costs for customers ordering between one to five books.

Last month Blurb announced the Best Blurb Books competition. Blurb users can enter under three categories - Family, Pets or Travel - with a grand prize winner in each category of $3,000, with a runner up winning $1,000.

People's Choice winners will receive Blurb Gift Cards. Submissions will be accepted until the 22 October 2009. Users need to download the Blurb BookSmart 2.5 to get started. More details can ne found here.
