Five shows it’s the season to ‘give’ in two new 25-second channel idents in which everyday scenes come to life with animated Christmas lights.

he idents will be used to promote charities over Christmas with a different charity featuring each day. Blue post production edited the idents and provided extensive visual effects, working closely with the 3D and telecine departments of sister company, Clear.

The idents take the viwer through various scenes – a forest, a postbox on the street, a narrow boat on the river, a parked bicycle, a train crossing a bridge, a scarecrow in a field and a sweeping shot of a cityscape – that have each been enlivened by dancing Christmas lights, all triggered by the music. In the final shot, a vast cityscape has undergone special festive treatment – illumined by a “five” logo made entirely of flashing lights.<BR>

On close-up shots, such as the post box and bicycle, actual Christmas lights were shot ‘practicals’ in-camera, and the lights animated in post. For the wide shots, such as the bridge, larger lights were shot as elements and then animated onto the footage. Clear’s Phil Hurrell was responsible for creating the end shot logo which was built from individual 3D lights.
