AJA Video has announced the third iteration of its Kona uncompressed SD/HD capture card for use with Apple's Final Cut Pro. The Kona 3 board offers 40 per cent more processing power than the Kona 3 card, according to AJA.

The Kona 3 features a four-lane PCI Express interface for use within Power Mac G5s. It captures and plays back uncompressed SD or HD format, says AJA, with support for 10-bit and 8-bit digital video and 24-bit 48kHz digital audio. Features include hardware-based up- and down-conversion to and from SD to HD, and a live hardware keyer for compositing.

The board also accelerates the processing DVCPro HD, HDV and Final Cut Pro's Dynamic RT Extreme real-time preview engine. As well as FCP, the Kona 3 can provide monitoring of Adobe After Effects and Photoshop.

The Kona 3 costs $2990 (around £1,700). An optional K3-Box rackmountable IRU enclosure costs $299 (£170). It will ship on January 30.
