Corel is to aquire eight of MetaCreation's up-for-grabs tools – including Painter 6.0, KPT, KPT Vector Effects and Bryce – with the company promising aggressive development plans for the products. The move follows MetaCreations bid to off-load its graphic-arts product range and concentrate on 3D streaming technology. Corel said in a statement that is has ambitious plans for the products, including launching new versions for both the Web and retail channels, plus plans to broaden the range of localized versions worldwide. "This is truly exciting news for us," said Dr Michael Cowpland, Corel's president and CEO. "The acquisition fits our strategic vision of offering world-class applications for multiple platforms. Corel is committed to developing new versions of the Painter, KPT and Bryce product lines and supporting the existing customer base worldwide." The Corel shopping list includes: Painter, Painter Classic, Painter 3D, Art Dabbler, KPT, KPT-X, Vector Effects and Bryce. This just leaves MetaCreations pitching a few products – including 3D tools Carrara and Poser.
