Creating Distressed Beauty

Of his Distressed Beauty series, Murilo Maciel says: “My main goal was to create images that have both beauty and delicacy, with a rough look applied to it. I love to bring conflicting concepts to some of my images.”

WHITE BACKDROP “Sometimes the use of white as an element helps give an elegant look to my work; other times, texture might be the aspect that helps integrate all the elements.”

WATERCOLOUR STROKES “I love the roughness and imperfections of watercolour, but above all I love the organic shapes of the washes.”

BUTTERFLY “Ornaments are a really important aspect of my work – they add grace to it.”
