At full-service agency Nowwashyourhands, creativity is key with its design-hungry team busy on varied projects for blue-chip clients. Director Neil Jeffries tells Digit what makes them so driven.

Nowwashyourhands has one simple goal – to be known as one of the best design agencies in London. A difficult challenge, admits director Neil Jeffries, but one that the Nowwashyourhands team relishes. “We had a goal when we set the company up, to be working on major brands such as BBC Interactive and MTV – four years later that’s exactly what we’re doing,” says Jeffries. “Now, we just want to keep pushing ourselves and do the best work out there for the best clients around.

NYWH was formed in 2001 by friends Jeffries, Angus Mackinnon, and Tim Spear. Having worked together in the new-media department of major London design agency Blueberry, the trio were faced with seeking new work when their employer became a victim of the dot-com bubble burst.

Rather than work for another agency, the friends decided to they had nothing to lose by going it alone and hence NWYH sprung to life from Neil Jeffries’ home office.

“When we started, we had a simple idea – large, experienced agency professionalism at small agency fees – this worked at a time when client budgets had been slashed,” explains Jeffries. “On top of this, we had built up a good relationship with some great people at Blueberry, a few of which had moved onto the clients side, leading to our first work as NWYH.”
