The new PDF to Book workflow allows creative professionals to design books using the application of their choice, save the file as a PDF, and upload it directly to Blurb. Blurb has created pre-made templates for Adobe InDesign users and has developed guidelines and specifications for users of other design programs. PDF to Book gives creatives the ability to design books entirely in CMYK, while utilizing native file formats such as TIFF, EPS, and PNG in the book’s contents.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: Photography.Book.Now for Blurb photo book creators
User-created book publisher Blurb is taking entries from its customers for its second Photography.Book.Now competition. The grand prize is $25,000 (around £17,500) to finish – or start – a photography project of the winner’s choice. Entries will be accepted in three categories – Fine Art, Editorial, and Commercial. The grand prize and first-prize winners will receive a private portfolio review with members of the judging panel in the category in which they submitted. Submissions will be accepted until 4pm on July 16 2009 at the Photography.Book.Now website. Noted photography book expert Darius Himes will serve as lead judge for the second year. In this role, Himes will lead a panel of editors, gallery curators, publishers, and photographers who will jury the Photography.Book.Now competition. The full panel of judges will be announced shortly. In 2008, more than 2,000 photography books were submitted for consideration to the inaugural Photography.Book.Now competition. Beth Dow, a professional photographer from Minneapolis, MN, was awarded the $25,000 grand prize for her project, In the Garden, a book-length presentation of a portfolio of large platinum-palladium prints that examine tensions of mass, light, and perspective in highly cultivated landscapes.

Blurb adds premium paper option to small-scale book publishing service
Blurb has announced a new Premium Paper offering. The 100-pound text silk-finish paper is 35 per cenjt heavier than Blurb’s standard paper, and features improved opacity and superior print quality -- two commonly requested upgrades from the book publishing service's professional users, according to the company.
